- "Mickey Rooney lends his special talents to this heartwarming Christmas story about a retired New York City detective who strikes a heavenly bargain to keep a promise to his grandson. Gentle humor and poignant moments set the tone for this modern fable in which Poppa (Mickey Rooney) pledges to take Robbie (Scott Grimes) to New York City to show the boy what a real Christmas is like. Before they leave, however, Poppa suffers a fatal heart attack. Upon convincing the Arch Angel (George Gaynes) that his death was a mistake, Poppa is allowed to return to earth on the condition that he finds a wayward angel dispatched to bring the Christmas spirit to New York.
