Brown; Chapman Baehler.Arrangers: 3rd Strike; Steve Thompson .Amid a bevy of rap-metal bands that worship at the altar of Korn and Limp Bizkit, 3rd Strike emerged with LOST ANGEL to show that practitioners of the genre were capable of a sense of history that looked back further than last week. While fans of the aforementioned groups will probably warm right up to this hard-hitting quintet, 3rd Strike has just as much in common with the grunge-era polemics of Rage Against the Machine and the melodic, ultimately accessible punk-funk of (at this point) old-schoolers Red Hot Chili Peppers. Vocalist Jim Korthe can spout heated invective with the best of them (a la Zach De La Rocha), but he occasionally pauses for a carefully constructed melody. The rest of the band follows him measure for measure, finding just the right moment to leaven the sledgehammer attack with a bit of surprisingly tasteful sonic embroidery.
